Scrappy Memories

Closeup of a pile of fusible scraps.

Little fused bits and pieces of my quilt life.

Music and Memories Imagine that the soundtrack from The Way We Were is playing in the background and that Barbra Streisand is singing this instead of me. It’ll be so much cooler for you, than if you are imagining me singing it—Trust me—I’ve heard her sing, and I’ve heard me sing—she is SO much better at it than I am.

It’s also a great endorsement for me to have Barbra sing on my blog about quilting. You can imagine how surprised and flattered I was when she asked to perform. So everyone, let’s give Barbra a big round of applause to show her your support . . .

Memories . . .
Like the corners of my quilts
Pretty brightly-colored memories
Of the quilts I’ve made

Fusible scrap leftovers . . .
From the quilts I’ve made before.
Smiles and memories shared with one another
Of the quilts I’ve made.

Can it be that the patterns were all so simple then?
Or have I just learned so much more?
If I could requilt them all again . . .
Tell me, would I? should I?

Fusible scrap memories . . .
may be beautiful and yet
Whats too painful to reverse stitch
I simply choose to forget

So it’s the fabric
That I will remember
Whenever I remember . . .
The quilts I’ve made . . .
The quilts I’ve made . . .

Thank you, Barbra. That was very special. Very special indeed. Does anyone have a tissue? My eyes are leaking.

All The Little Pieces This project is all about making the scrap fusible usable. The next step in the process is to remove all the excess fabric from the fusible web. I only want to deal with the fusible pieces. I’ll show you what I do with the leftovers of the leftovers later on. At the moment, it’s only the fusible pieces that interest me.

Cutting And Cutting I take my Boxes of Infinite Possibilities and start trimming away all the excess fabric. This step obviously took a while to complete, but once all the prep work is done—I’m good ta go!

So, through the magic of television . . . I now have all these wonderful pieces.

Whup, whup . . . hold on there pardner. We’re on the internet, not on TV. You know, you’re right. What was I thinking? I guess you have to wait for the next post to see what I did next.

Great song, Dude. My eyes are leaking, too…but not because of sentimentalities. Instead…laughter. ;-D Aren’t you thrilled — I say, THRILLED! — to start my day off with laughter? ;-D
