Jacquie, Oh yeah!

Jacquie: Diary of a Quilt Show Girl

I Love Surprises Today’s post is a surprise gift from my friend Jacquie.

Jacquie is the 12-year-old daughter of my friend DeNiece. She is smart, funny, talented and beautiful—and if that weren’t enough—she reads my blog regularly, which is an unquestionable sign of superior intelligence.

After reading numerous quilt show posts, Jacquie knows that I enjoy sharing good photos when I find them. This is where the surprise comes in. You see, Jacquie and her mom are at the Minnesota Quilters 2011 Quilt Show and Conference this weekend. Since I couldn’t make it to the show, Jacquie decided to cover it for me. Isn’t that amazing? Like I’ve said before, I’m a very lucky man.

When Jacquie told me she was going to document the show for my blog, I imagined I’d get a few dozen photographs and that would be the end of it. Why should I think differently? She’s only 12, remember?  Although motivated, I figured boredom would set in long before the job done. Boy, was I wrong. I mean REALLY wrong.

Like a seasoned professional, Jacquie went out and shot hundreds of photos. She photographed everything from quilts to vendor booths—and she’s still not done. As you browse through the photos, you can clearly see that Jacquie spent a tremendous amount of time and effort to bring me—and you—a detailed look at this show.

Beyond getting to see all the great photos, I got to see the show through her eyes—which was the best gift of all. I hope you enjoy Jacquie’s gift as much as I do.

Thanks, Jacquie! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE my gift.

June 18th Update After yesterday’s post, I decided to do a little surfing and came across a wonderful collection of photos from the show. Holly from the APQS message board has shot almost 200 photographs of the show quilts. You will find tons of beautiful detail and full-view shots. Check it out! I know you are going to love it.

Hmmmm, after looking at all the images, I think I need to go to next year’s show. What do you think?

June 23rd Update It appears that more than quilts were on display during the Minnesota Quilt Show. Attendees of the show were entertained by spontaneous opera solos, duets and string quartet performances put on by Random Acts of Culture. Check out this video to see what you missed.
