Mr. DeMille, I’m Ready for My Closeup

Ricky Tims & Alex Anderson: The Quilt Show Trailer Opener

Hey Kids!

Guess what time it is? It’s almost time for my episode of The Quilt Show to air and I have a coupla things to share with you before tomorrow.

Alex Laughing At Tom

Alex and I have a good laugh during my beading demonstration.

The first thing I have to tell you about is a behind-the-scenes slide show taken during the taping of my episode. I had a great time on the set and it seems that everyone else did too. To see the slide show click here.

Tom Splaining Something To Ricky

Ricky listens intently as I splain something during my button demonstration.

If you missed seeing the episode trailer, you can see it here.

Tom And The Quilt Show Crew

I’m obviously very caught up in what I’m splaining to the crew. I didn’t know Gregory Case was taking photos at the time, but I am thrilled that he was.

The second thing I want to tell you about is how to see my episode for free. That’s right kiddos, FREE! I didn’t stutter . . . I said, FREE!

Here’s all you have to do:

The show will be available for FREE! from July 8 – July 15, 2012.

To see it, you need to sign up as a Basic (Free) member—which is super easy to do. Just click on the sign up link and complete the form. It really can’t get much simpler than that.

Tom Gets a Fabulous Little Chair From Alex Ricky and The Quilt Show Crew

I received a fabulous one-of-a-kind little chair from Alex, Ricky and The Quilt Show crew to add to my collection.

After seeing my episode, I’d recommend you check out the site. It’s chock-full of amazing things and wonderful shows to watch.

If you decide to become a member after watching my show, you can get a 20% discount for joining. All you have to do is enter the following coupon code: 214220702827 when you make your payment.

Once you’ve done this, your membership will be upgraded to Star. Which is exactly what you are in my eyes. 🙂

Alex, Tom And Ricky On The Set

Alex, Ricky and I finish the day with this wonderful group photo.

This whole Quilt Show experience has been truly amazing journey for me. I can’t begin to thank Alex and Ricky enough for allowing me to come on their amazing show and share what makes me so excited about quilting.

Now that I’ve shared a few outtakes from the slide show with you and told to how to see my episode for FREE! . . . You know what I think? . . . I think you need to click on any of the links above or any of the photos and check the slide show, then come back here and tell me what you think.

Go on now, take a look. It’s FREE! 🙂

. . . . . . . . . .

As exciting as this news is, I have something else to share that I am extremely excited about. The good news and the great adventures, just keep coming.

Thanks for being patient with me as I get a handle on my new job. It has taken a lot of time away from blogging—among other things—but it’s getting better and better, so I will have many stories to share in the future.

Well, I gotta run Honeybun, or there won’t be a another post for a while and we can’t have that, now can we?

Love to you all and thanks for your support. You are the best BFFs a guy could ever have. 🙂

Can’t wait to see it, Tom! I just signed up yesterday so I could see your episode…BEFORE I knew anything about a discount. Of course. But you’re worth it! ❤

    • Tom Russell Says:

Hi Diane, You are too funny. I’m glad you’ve signed up to see the show. I am excited to see the show myself and will be looking forward to hearing what you think of it.

Thanks for your enthusiasm and support! Have a glorious day!

  2. Sharon Kisel Says:

As a TQS member, I had already received emails and viewed the slide show. I can hardly wait to see the show! We all know how busy you must be. My husband and I will be attending filming of TQS in August and I am excited about heading to Boulder. Our son and his family are in Denver so it is a combined trip for us. Take care and don’t run yourself too ragged.

    • Tom Russell Says:

Hi Sharon, How cool is that? You are going to have a blast. Being a part of the audience will be a treat indeed. Couple that with a visit to see your son . . . sounds like an amazing adventure to me. I am excited for you.

Being a little ragged around the edges is a sign of great adventure, so I’m more than okay with that. 🙂

Thanks for dropping by to leave a comment. Have a fantastic day!

  3. Karen E Overton Says:

Free is a wonderful word! It truly pays to be your BFF . . . was that Kathy I saw in the background? Yep, I’m jealous.

So happy that things are going your way . . . feel like breaking into song . . . zippity do da . . . as I celebrate with you. Can’t wait to see the show!!

    • Tom Russell Says:

Hey Karen, Yes, FREE is a wonderful word and I am thrilled to be able to throw it around for all my BFFs.

Yes, that was Kathy in the slide show. She came along to share in my adventure. It was a magical experience and having her there was proof that I wasn’t dreaming.

Zippty Do Dah is the perfect theme song for this miraculous occasion.

I appreciate your enthusiasm and joy. It makes this special day even more grand.

      xxxooo 🙂

  4. Jayardi Says:

    • • • I almost signed up this weekend in anticipation of your show. Haven’t pulled the trigger yet (not sure I can afford it), but I do have a gift certificate for one FREE show. Guess which one I’ll be ordering? Ha Ha

Looking forward to your next installment. ♥

    • Tom Russell Says:

Hey Jayardi, I’m glad I posted this before you pulled the trigger. No need to waste that valuable certificate.

I’m looking forward to the day that I get to watch your episode of The Quilt Show, because I know it’s coming. xxxooo 🙂

  5. Nikki Brackin Says:

LOVE the out takes and the snippets and can’t wait to see the whole thing! You so deserve all the good things that are happening in your life Tom and I am so very happy for you! Congratulations!

    • Tom Russell Says:

Hi Nikki! You are sooooo sweet and so supportive, I hardly know what to say. I am glad you enjoyed the outtakes and am just as anxious to see the show and hear what you think.

I count you as one of the many good things that are in my life. You are a treasure and a blessing to me. xxxooo 🙂

  6. Jackie Says:

I’ve been a member of TQS for two years and it’s how I first came upon you. When I watch your show tomorrow it will be like we’re in my living room together. Can’t wait for your show. Of course you can always come up for tea and cookies anytime.

    • Tom Russell Says:

Hi Jackie, Sharing a little tea and cookies while we watch the show, sounds like a wonderful idea. I am anxious to hear what you think about my episode.

Thanks for dropping by to let me know you are tuning in to see it.

  7. Denise Says:

Oh, my goodness! You’re like a real live celebrity. And I know you! How cool is all of this…I’m so excited to follow your journey as you “go with the flow.” Love you bunches.

    • Tom Russell Says:

HA! Yep, I’m a faux celebrity. I play one on TV and it’s still pretty cool. I am excited too and delighted to share adventure with you. It makes it even better, knowing that you are there.

Going with the flow is the perfect phrase. It’s about doing what is natural and feels right, so it’s easy and fun. Fighting the flow it is futile and absolutely no fun at all. We all know how frustrating that can be, so why do it?

Thanks for coming along for the ride. Love you bunches too. 🙂

P.S. I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your grandmother. What a gift it was to have this amazing woman in your life. You are blessed. There’s no doubt about it.

  8. Jackie Corsi Says:

OMG just saw your show……started at 8am UK time. Fantastic, fantastic… you should teach, how about starting in the UK??? I am in awe with your designs!!

    • Tom Russell Says:

Hi Jackie, How wonderful! I am thrilled that the show has aired and that you found it entertaining.

Yes, I do teach and I would love to take a trip to the UK.

I am trying to figure out how to post my schedule and workshops on my blog, but I haven’t figured out how to do that yet. I know it must be easy to do, but I still haven’t figured it out. 🙂 Soon as I do, I’ll be posting where I am teaching and speaking.

So far, I am only booked in the US, but I am definitely open to seeing more of the world. It’s been years since I visited the UK and would love to go again, especially if it gives me the opportunity to meet you in person.

I’m glad you enjoyed the show. Your enthusiasm has made my day!

  9. Sharon Kisel Says:

Hi, Tom! I am back to say the show was GREAT!! Lots of information and tips and FUN!! I am glad some of your photography made it in too with the little chairs. I don’t take workshops as a rule, but if I am close to one of yours I will sign up immediately – just for the fun and all the fabulous information. Now many more people can follow your star!!

    • Tom Russell Says:

Hi Sharon, Thanks for the update and the endorsement. If my presentation made you change your workshop rule, then I guess I did pretty well. YEA!

I’m really glad you enjoyed the show and found it informative. As soon as I figure out how to add a workshop/schedule page to my blog, you and everyone else can come see me when I am in your area, which would make that adventure, even more exciting.

Thanks for letting me know how the show went. Have a fabulous day! 🙂

  10. Linda Poullard Says:

    Hi Tom,
I watched the show and loved it. Are you ever going to offer an online class? I absolutely love your art.

  11. Kaarina Says:

Hi Tom, I just found you and your blog through The Quilt Show. I watched the trailer and then came to your blog. As a newcomer I have moved from post to post and really enjoyed everything. The “inch” flowers are wonderful. So were your quilts in the trailer of the Quilt Show. It is great to have found you.

  12. Cj Lee Says:

I’m sooo happy to have “discovered” you! Love your work and wonderful sense of humor! You’re not only a good teacher, you’re so inspiring… thanks for all of the information on embellishing… I’m off to my studio! Looking forward to a book from you!

  13. Jackie Says:

I loved, loved, loved your show. You were so cute and I’ve never embellished a quilt other then the piecing and quilting but will definitely do some on my next wall hanging. You had excellent tips and hints and your enthusiasm was something that made me think I can like “Little Red Engine” who thinks he can, I can and will. I sure hope your come up to Canada to teach because I will be there. Loved it (just had to say it one more time)

  14. Nikki Brackin Says:

Just watched the show and I LOVED it – Mr. Demille’s camera LOVES you Tom. You alone were worth the price of admission – but look at all the information and techniques you gave us! Priceless! Love you!

  15. Kim Says:

I was already a star member and was excited to see you’d be on the show! I tried watching yesterday (twice!) but our internet was tooooo slooooow. This morning I was finally able to watch and I loved it! I’ve been doing some beading but am now inspired to do MORE, MORE, MORE.
What I’ve been doing on my art quilts is beading as I quilt, adding a bead every three or four stitches as I do a meandering pattern. On some I use beads the same color as the background which just adds a little shimmer to the quilt, and other times I use beads that POP against the background. I’ve been quite addicted to adding beads 🙂 So thanks for MORE inspiration!

  16. Jill Buckley Says:

Been a star member for a while now……really enjoy the Quilt Show…(some shows more than others)…..but…..always learn something….Now, you asked for our thoughts on your episode, so, I am gonna tell ya……..remember, you DID ask. 🙂

You looked as though you belonged on that set…..you appeared to be having such great fun!!!!! You offered excellent tips, and I am quite certain you have inspired quilters everywhere.

    Enjoy your celebrity status!

  17. BJ Says:

Hi Tom, I’m a charter member of TQS and have seen ALL the shows. Yours ranks right up there in the top. I love your enthusiasm and the techniques you showed on that show have given me many new ideas and told me how to accomplish them. I’ll be watching for you and your work in the future. 😀 Thank you!

  18. Robin Gold Says:

Hi Tom, I’ve just watched your TQS show (I’ve been a TQS member since the beginning), and it was fantastic!!! You always inspire me, but this show was beyond amazing. There is so much that will change in my quilting because of watching this show. In particular, I have two quilts that I’m slowing working on, but now that I see how much some of your embellishment techniques can help both quilts, I’m very eager to get moving on them. Thank you!!!

  19. Julia Says:

Hi Tom, I enjoyed your visit to the TQS this week, your amazing beaded and buttoned embellishments gave your quilts such a wonderful texture. I told my beading group today all about them here in Gloucestershire UK. Hopefully some will be able to watch the show. Are you exhibiting at the Festival of Quilts in birmingham?

  20. bez Says:

Just watched your debut on The Quilt Show. Amazing work. Would love to take a class from you. Great show Tom. Keep up the beautiful work.

  21. Janice Smith Says:

WOW! What a fabulous program. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Today I posted a photo on my blog of my very first quilt. it was the House BOM from HGTV which you mentioned having designed. That’s what started my life as a quilter.

Again, you were fun and fantastic!!!

  22. Marilyn Knepp Says:

Hi Tom, I just watched the show and it was terrific. For the first time this year, I embellished a quilt with beads, and the experience showed me that I need to learn techniques for doing that well. I have lots of buttons and seem to always buy more, but I’ve never embellished anything with buttons YET! You need to write a book and figure out how to share your schedule with us so we can find you in person. Thanks for inspiring me and for sharing some of your techniques with me (and the other TQS members).

  23. Sandy Says:

Tom, I just watched your segment on The Quilt Show and I’m sooo appreciative of what you do. I’ve been fumbling along with beads and embellishments, not quite knowing the techniques and your information really helped. I’ve got to find where you’re teaching or find a way to get you invited to teach here in Atlanta. I want to come to class with Tom!!
And your heart spoke as loudly as your words….you not only are a love, Tom, you ARE love.
    Sandy

  24. Barb Says:

Nice to meet the fellow who made the quilts I’ve admired. Your show was inspirational and fun.

  25. Angela Says:

    Hi Tom,
I’ve been a Basic (Free) member for a while, so I thought I’d just wait till today to watch your show. I was really looking forward to it. But, whenever I click on “Watch this Show” it just takes me back to the show information page! I’m logged in…is there some other secret to getting the show that I’m missing? Did they change the free dates? Did they change their minds about offering it for free?
    Sincerely,
    Anxious

  26. Brenda Howard Says:

    Hey Tom,
I just watched you episode, you are so awesome. You know when I meet you last year at Festival in Houston, I thought you were a neat guy and I came home and looked up your website. Then you came to our Guild (Peace By Piecing in Humble) earlier this year and I was just totally blown away and crushing big time on 1. Your outlook on life. 2. Your incredible work and color choices. 3. Your impressive message that it’s okay to step outside the box and do what makes you happy. There is such a joy that comes from opening your emails and seeing your rambling and the joy that you express through your words, pictures and quilting. Thank you for who you are and for what you mean to me. I use my “magic pencil” every time I sew since it is in the basket with my scissors and seam ripper beside my machine.

    Hugs and Best Wishes,
    Brenda (in the pink wheelchair)

  27. Karen Overton Says:

Just finished watching, and I’m amazed. I have always loved your little quilts and you have been soooo inspiring, but I am totally blown away with all the ways you sewed those buttons! I will never look at a button the same way again. Makes me want to rush out to every flea market in town (and out of town) to go on a button hunt! I do think you need to publish a button sampler booklet such as the one you shared on the show. And yes, free is good – but I’m going to take advantage of the discount code and tune in more often to TQS – I was a charter member but never took advantage of the shows offered. Now I’m seeing the value of “me time” and slowing down to learn new tips and techniques – once again my friend, you have broadened my horizons!. I need to go find some buttons! love ya! ko

  28. wildcatmom Says:

    Hi Tom,
As a member of the HGTV boards, it was exciting to have our group and some of our activities mentioned in your interview. This year I’ll be attending my first COF retreat. I haven’t got the whole show viewed yet, just wanted to come back and tell you how great it was to see you on The Quilt Show. They were lucky to have you as their guest.

  29. cat stone Says:

Angela, I’m also a Basic Member, and haven’t been able to watchit either. I love your happy cheerful work, Tom, but will have to settle for looking at the photos you post here.

  30. Carla Says:

Love love love it. Can I have your autograph sir? ;o) I love listening to you speak. You inspire and make me smile. Well sometimes I LOL. You’re good.
My fingers just weren’t meant to do beading but I so admire what you can do with beads and buttons. Oh and I love you in that blue shirt. ;o)
And your good news just keeps a coming…so happy for you.

  31. Carla Says:

Loved the show. I love you in that blue shirt. You keep the audience’s attention with you detail and quick wit and enthusiasiam. I think I just spelled that wrong. It’s amazing what you can do with buttons and beads. My fingers just don’t work right when it comes to that kind of hand work. Can I have your autograph super star.

  32. Teresa Golding Says:

Hello Tom, am a TQS member and watched your episode, three no four times over! I had been working on a small Christmas wallhanging and had included small white Delica beads with every blanket stitch round the pom pom on the end of Santa’s hat…….well, after watching your work, I think there will be a lot more beady and buttony bits added – luckily I have a good stash of beads as I also make jewellery, mainly earrings – anyway, loved your work, and if you ever get the chance to come ‘down under’ and do any workshops I think you would be a huge hit. Thanks for the inspiration…….
